DOLPHIN DEATHS A REMINDER THAT RESTORATION IS KEY

We are continuing to monitor the unusual number of dolphin deaths in the Gulf. National Wildlife Federation’s senior scientist Doug Inkley reminds us, “While we do not yet know if these dolphin deaths were associated with the Gulf oil gusher, we do know that the environmental health of the Gulf of Mexico has been in serious decline for a long time, a decline made even worse by the oil disaster.”

“These dolphin deaths and the struggles of other wildlife in the region remind us that all wildlife need healthy places to live and raise their young, and the Gulf is in need of a large-scale restoration investment to provide these habitats.”

Thank you so much for all you do to make sure the Gulf wildlife and coastal habitats impacted by the oil disaster get the attention and help they need. Please feel free to re-post this message or share it with your friends and family members!

Community Project Ideas

Mary Campbell, the Extension Director with Pinellas County is very interested in talking to our group about a volunteer partnership.

They currently have a program with UF (not sure if that is a problem, we’re USF). She is working with the Green Business Partnership program and thinks that may be a good fit for the Entrepreneurs Club. They are in need of volunteers that can promote the program (Chambers, events, expos), do the assessments with businesses and track successes.

Tampa would also like to have a “passport program” with their green assessment and she needs help putting that together as well. Please take a moment to look over their website, and comment as to whether or not you feel this would be a good fit for our club or not.

If you have any questions regarding this or any of the Pinellas County volunteer programs, feel free to contact Mary directly.

One final note: If you have any connections or ideas on volunteer work for our club, please post them here for all to see!

Or email me: markpeterson@mail.usf.edu

I would like to facilitate at least 3 (if not more) community service partnerships by the end of the 2010-2011 academic year. Go Bulls!

Entrepreneurship Club at Relay for Life

Relay for Life will be taking place in March and the Club will be participating! We’ll be helping The American Cancer Society in their efforts to raise awareness and to further research on various cancers. Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s largest fund raiser. Before the event, we’ll be working to raise money and during the all night event we’ll have at least one team member walking around the track. We might even run a fundraiser during the event. I have done this event before and it is really neat. There are a lots of different activities and it’s a ton of fun! Can’t wait!

Join Us At Ribfest

I wanted to let everyone know that coming up in the second weekend of November Ribfest will take place downtown at the Vinoy Park. Volunteers are always needed this would be my 8 year attending and its a blast. I have found out through working that there are many people through the Northeast Exchange Club that own their own business. Could be a great time to pick their brains and show them how we are all hard working college students wanting to get ahead and make a difference.
